At the confluence of the Tapajós, water, forest and time form an asset that no technology can replicate and no capital can reconstitute. Alter do Chão’s sustainable heritage is treated not as rhetoric but as structure: the name, the territory and the narrative remain in custody — with title, method and governance.

Quiet luxury is the absence of excess. In Amazon luxury conservation it means limited access, measurable impact and no promise that cannot be audited. Scarcity stops being a commercial argument and becomes a principle of preservation.

The territory

A river, a basin, a name.

Alter do Chão is a village in the municipality of Santarém, in the state of Pará, on the banks of the Tapajós River, one of the great tributaries of the Amazon. The Tapajós basin holds public conservation units such as the Tapajós National Forest and the Tapajós-Arapiuns Extractive Reserve (federal, managed by ICMBio) and the Alter do Chão Environmental Protection Area (municipal, created in 2003).

These areas are public, managed by government agencies and inhabited by local communities. The .eco seal does not manage them or speak for them: its remit is the custody of the ALTER DO CHÃO trademark and of the ESG method associated with it, with respect for those who govern the territory.
